Presence is a fine art photography project that explores my grief surrounding my mother’s death. The still life images represent my personal memories and emotions dealing with this loss. There are no people in these images; instead I chose to shoot spaces, objects and moods that remind me of her presence. It was important to me to use a quiet color palette to reflect the isolation and chronic void that I experience since my mother passed away.

My goal was to capture the idea of feeling misplaced, yet at the same time, exposing the complex beauty of a loss. These complexities have always made me want to examine what I’ve gone through and that analysis has stimulated me to create this body of work.
